She was born June 14, 1921 in Seco, Kentucky and was raised in New Boston, Ohio and lived many years in Melbourne, Florida and moved to Kingston, Tennessee in 1969. She was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Eastern Star in FlatRock, Michigan.

BRYAN, WILLIAM J. (BILL) born January 29, 1922, passed away April 21, 2005. He was preceded in death by wife, Florence (Brown) Bryan; son, Steve Bryan; father, E.0. She will be deeply missed. Virginia was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, on September 5, 1913. She was both a pianist and a vocalist. She was a tower of emotional strength to her family, self effacing, and stoically uncomplaining. She was blind for about the last 20 years.

Her mind was always sharp and clear. Her father, William T. Hartmann, was a police officer. Her mother was born Miriam Wilhelm. Her brothers, Bob and Rod, were combat veterans.

Virginia married Robert Lincoln Carpenter, who preceded her in death. Robert (Bob) was a veteran, and served our country also with a life's career in the nuclear weapons industry at Oak Ridge, TN. Bob received government recognition in the form of a posthumous monetary award for his personal sacrifice, working in too close proximity to nuclear radiation, resulting in cancer and his death. Virginia was a devoted mother to her three sons: Albert Rodney Carpenter, a Special Forces career veteran, Lee Robert Carpenter, and William (Bill) Lewis Carpenter, also a Special Forces veteran. Albert also preceded his mother in death.

Virginia leaves Bill's wife Karen Yvette Carpenter and their son John Willie Carpenter, who shared with Bill in taking care of Virginia the past six years. Virginia also leaves Bill's other son William Blake Carpenter, Blake's wife Julie Carpenter, their daughters Evangeline Marie Carpenter and Essie Lee Carpenter, Blake's mother Mary Hudson Carpenter, Lee's wife Gita Carpenter, Gita's three children, Lee's son Christopher Carpenter, Christopher's mother Rebecca Sunshine, Albert's son Jonathan Carpenter, Albert's wife, Rushanee Carpenter, Rushanee's other two children, and numerous other family and friends left unmentioned.
